The Self-Experimenter – 2005

This publication was developed for the event ‘The Void’ at The Barbican Gallery, London, part of the ‘Colour After Klein’ exhibition in 2005.

The full colour A2 folded sheet publication featured editorial, information on the exhibition ‘Le Vide’ by Yves Klein, data on methylene blue and a coupon for an artwork that needed to be cut out of the paper.

Additional materials include; an interview with British Artist John Latham on the nature of the ‘Void’, artist contributions from artists Beagles and Ramsay, and an article by Kathrin Soldhju from the Max Planck Institute on Aesthetics / Anaesthetics.

In ‘The VOID’ visitors to the experiment-event could become self-experimenters by exchanging a coupon for the limited edition artwork, a pill in a signed acrylic box, that was distributed by the artist. Additional information was given on the pill, and those who may be inadvertently or directly affected.  Those who chose to consume the artwork,  and became self-experimenters, also became the artwork as they peed blue for the following days.

The VOID was exhibited  at International 3 inManchester, with Max Planck Institute in Berlin, and with Barbican Gallery in London.
